Free Microchip Help to help you find an animal's owner.
Let our Microchip Hunters help you to get a dog or cat home!

Step 1

Check the ​AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool.  The AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool will assist you to find the owner information that is registered with the microchip or provide the chip's manufacturer. (Our microchip format sheet is very helpful.)  You can use this information to locate the owner.

​If you have used the Lookup Tool and have not been able to contact the owner because the phone is out of service or the microchip is not registered, then proceed to Step 2.

The following service is provided free by volunteers of Lost Dogs of America and is only meant to be utilized when the information registered with the pets microchip cannot be used to locate the owner.

We call this is a dead end microchip.

​Any information provided is kept in the strictest confidence. None of the information supplied will be posted publicly and that includes any information obtained through tracking the microchip.

Our volunteers are able to track these microchips because they have more time than most shelter staff and more resources than the public.

Step 3

List for free on the National Lost/Found Pet Registry: PetFBI.org to get a free flyer and be entered in the national database. Our members in the area will be alerted. Shelters are welcome to partner with PetFBI.
Two Little Known Facts About Microchips

Local Chicagoan Helps Reunite Families With Their Furry Friends  -  See what we do! Dead-end microchips often become difficult obstacles to navigate when trying to reunite missing pets with their owners. Thankfully, "microchip hunters" like Jeanette Garlow volunteer their time and detective skills to help reunite families with their furry loved ones.
