This dog was found as a stray and taken to animal control, where no microchip was detected.
After the stray hold, she was transferred to a rescue. When the rescue implanted a microchip and scanned her, an existing microchip number came up. When a dog has two microchips, there’s no guarantee which one will be detected during a scan. Microchip Hunter Deb was able to reach Nancy after locating a current phone number connected to the name on the chip. Nancy shared that she had been searching for her dogs, there were actually two. She explained that her mother had given them away, though we don’t know all the details, but she had been looking for them. We’re happy to share that Nancy was reunited with her dog, Princess, and that this story had a positive outcome for everyone involved. Thank you to everyone who played a part in helping this dog find her way home, and for reaching out to Microchip Hunters! Stories like this remind us: even when a microchip is missed, there’s still hope it can lead to a reunion. #MicrochipHunters microchiphelp.com Lost Dogs Illinois

"Dog has been seen in the area for about 5 days and was able to secure today while laying down in the bushes"
Thank you Cincinnati Animal Care for partnering with Microchip Hunters and submitting Bane's microchip when the information wasn't current! Microchip Volunteer Julia was able to find a working number for the family, who also had a new address near where Bane was found. "His leash broke on a walk last Friday and we looked for a few days but never found him." They were happy to get this call and went to pick him up right away! Thank you to the Good Samaritan that secured Bane and then turned him into the shelter and to CAC for submitting for help. Welcome home, Bane, you are loved! Microchip Hunters www.microchiphelpcom Lost Dogs Illinois Sweetie found her way to Chicago Animal Care and Control as a stray. She was microchipped, but the phone number on file was outdated.
Microchip Hunters volunteer Amy got to work and was able to track down a number for the owner’s daughter, who then provided an updated contact for her father. Sweetie had slipped out when one of the kids accidentally left the door open after school. When we connected, the family asked if we might be able to help with a harness and leash so he could bring her home safely. But getting to CACC wasn’t easy. Transportation was a barrier, and communication was challenging as the owner didn’t have a phone that could receive texts. Lost Dogs Illinois offered to help with Uber Pets, but coordinating everything proved difficult. So Microchip Hunters reached out to Michelle P., a longtime supporter of LDI, who quickly spread the word in the Chicago community and that’s when Carlos stepped in. Without hesitation, Carlos offered to personally transport Sweetie and her owner home. It takes a truly special person to show up like that. As Carlos said, “I did it with my heart. I know he loves that dog, and if she stayed another day, he might not have gotten her.” Amy received this message tonight from the family: "Good evening Amy, I was calling to tell you thank you and I appreciate everything you did for me I just want to call and say thank you very much Good night" Thank you to everyone who played a part in this reunion. The dog community here is something truly special. #MicrochipHunters www.microchiphelp.com Abandoned, not abandoned....
When Chicago Animal Care and Control was unable to reach a dog’s family after he was left at the shelter, they passed along his microchip for our Microchip Hunters team to investigate. The dog, later known to us as Coffee, was labeled “abandoned” but we know that word doesn’t always tell the full story. After pulling the microchip registration (originally registered in 2023) and running background searches, I posted for one of our volunteers to work this case, noting that “abandoned” doesn’t always mean the owner chose to leave their dog behind. Volunteer Cheryl took the case and, despite disconnected phone numbers, she didn't give up! She tracked down the owner through Facebook, and what she found out changed everything The owner replied to Cheryl's message: “ICE kicked me out of the country and I have no way to return.” Cheryl asked if there was anyone who could care for Coffee and explained he had been brought to the shelter. The owner shared: “There’s no one to take care of him. I asked a friend to take him to CACC. I know you’ll take care of him and find him a new family. I replied to the email you sent asking if there was an organization that could help send him to Mexico. I can take care of him in Mexico; he’s my companion.” After reaching out to a group of rescues, without hesitation, Border Tails Rescue stepped in and said YES, they would pick Coffee up from CACC, care for him, and arrange transport to reunite him with his family in Mexico. They work with dogs in Mexico and were glad to help! The owner confirmed "I would love to meet up with Coffee again; that would make me very happy" Because of Cheryl’s persistence, because of incredible rescue partners, and because of one tiny microchip, this story gets a different ending. Thank you Chicago Animal Care and Control for partnering with Microchip Hunters, to Cheryl for her determination in tracking down Coffee's family, to Harleigh from Border Tails Rescue for stepping up so quickly to help, and to Matteo for caring for Coffee as your own during transport!!! Welcome back to your family, Coffee. All this, because of his microchip.... #MicrochipHunters www.microchiphelp.com Lost Dogs Illinois |
