Sweetie found her way to Chicago Animal Care and Control as a stray. She was microchipped, but the phone number on file was outdated.
Microchip Hunters volunteer Amy got to work and was able to track down a number for the owner’s daughter, who then provided an updated contact for her father. Sweetie had slipped out when one of the kids accidentally left the door open after school. When we connected, the family asked if we might be able to help with a harness and leash so he could bring her home safely. But getting to CACC wasn’t easy. Transportation was a barrier, and communication was challenging as the owner didn’t have a phone that could receive texts. Lost Dogs Illinois offered to help with Uber Pets, but coordinating everything proved difficult. So Microchip Hunters reached out to Michelle P., a longtime supporter of LDI, who quickly spread the word in the Chicago community and that’s when Carlos stepped in. Without hesitation, Carlos offered to personally transport Sweetie and her owner home. It takes a truly special person to show up like that. As Carlos said, “I did it with my heart. I know he loves that dog, and if she stayed another day, he might not have gotten her.” Amy received this message tonight from the family: "Good evening Amy, I was calling to tell you thank you and I appreciate everything you did for me I just want to call and say thank you very much Good night" Thank you to everyone who played a part in this reunion. The dog community here is something truly special. #MicrochipHunters www.microchiphelp.com
