MICROCHIP MIX UP!

Cindy P. found this sweet, friendly cat in Chicago and scanned her for a microchip. She was chipped! Cindy P. called the microchip company that the chip came from, and they reached out to Cleo's owner. Cleo's owner, Maira, panicked and went to see if her cat was home, and she was!

Cindy then messaged Microchip Hunters for help with this mixed-up chip. Microchip Hunters (MH) called the chip company and reached out to this owner (Maira) again to see if this could be figured out! Maira told me (MH) when she went to pick her cat Cleo up, there was someone also picking up from the facility. This other person, Brittany, also had a cat named Cleo and they came out with the wrong cat for her. She told them that wasn't her cat, and they went back and got the correct Cleo. They thought nothing of it after that.

Thankfully, Maira had the paperwork provided to her, and read me the microchip number. It was not a match to the cat found! I contacted the Microchip company again and got the owner information for this second chip number, who was also registered to a cat named Cleo in Chicago. This address was about a mile from the found location!

Brittany didn't answer the phone but did reply to my text asking if she was missing a cat named Cleo. "Yes, oh my goodness!! We've been looking for her. She was missing for roughly 3 days." I explained what happened with the microchip and she said, "They did bring out the wrong Cleo when I got her spayed."

Please get your animals scanned at their next vet visit (or sooner) to make sure the microchip number is correct and contact the microchip company to make sure your information is registered correctly too if you haven't done so. Accidents happen and we don't want it to prevent a happy reunion such as this!

Thank you, Cindy, and Maira for your help getting Cleo home to her family! Maira and Brittany will be correcting their microchip registrations, and the facility was notified too for their records!

"Thank you so much, my girls will be so happy!
Thanks for doing all this work!! Much appreciated"
