Erica, a very special person, found this beautiful senior boy, and took him to be scanned at Chicago Animal Care and Control. His microchip came up as an unregistered Avid number. Erica didn't have the heart to leave him at animal control, so she took him home, posted on Lost Dogs Illinois, and sent the information to us at microchiphelp.com. Microchip Hunter Katie C. found the owner information the next morning, through the Anti Cruelty Society where the chip was implanted. Of course, it wasn't that easy; the number was disconnected. After some searching, Katie found the owner, and said "she was so happy when I called her!" Katie gave her the finder information, and Erica was able to bring him home to them yesterday! Thank you Katie C. for your help finding Ambrose's family, and thank you to Erica for all your kindness.  Snowball showed up at Chicago Animal Care and Control on March 16th, with just a rabies tag. He had no microchip, and no ID tag. Cook County was able to give them the owners first initial, last name, and outdated phone number, but CACC thought maybe this tag was on the wrong dog, because he was described as white and his name was "Snow."
After a week passed, CACC submitted it to#MicrochipHunters. I wasn't able to find a working phone number or email address for the owner given to CACC from the rabies tag, so started researching family. Thankfully, the owner's niece called me back after I left a voicemail and text regarding a found dog. She said "Snowball's family is looking for him." She also let me know that the owner had passed away, but that his son would be to CACC right away to pick him up. I let her know they were closed for the evening, but that he could go tomorrow. Zac called me today, and told me he was in the parking lot at CACC. I was so happy to hear this, and he was so thankful that we contacted him. He said he takes care of Snowball, and that they missed him so much. Thank you for reaching out to us to help find Snowball's family. It took an old rabies tag to get this 9 year old sweetheart home. ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters  On March 12th, Chicago Animal Care and Control sent a dead end microchip case to us at microchiphelp.com. After 24 PetWatch gave me the owner information, volunteer Ann took the case researching the registered owner, Charmaine, late in the evening. She sent numerous facebook messages, followed by voicemails, and texts to family members. No reponses.
A few days later, I offered some help as I knew this Puggle had one day left for her hold. I reached the ex sister-in-law, and she told me her brother Ed still keeps in touch with his ex-wife Charmaine. She called Ed, and let me know he would contact Charmaine. Volunteer Ann also heard back just then, from Ed's brother, and he told her he would reach out to Ed as well. Charmaine called me very shortly after, and explained that she had given Nyla away. A few years ago, Charmaine had to make some changes in her life. Some good, and some not so good. She moved into a senior facility, and had to leave behind her dog Nyla, and her cat, both whom she loved dearly. She gave her dog Nyla to a family that wanted her. "I had to pay $300 to bring her with me, and I didn't have the money at the time. But I do now." I let her know Nyla was at animal control and still registered to her. She didn't have the information of the family she gave Nyla to. She said she would love to have her dog again. I made sure to check with CACC to see if anyone had come in to pick Nyla up, in case they were turned away until the stray hold was up because of the microchip. Charmaine didn't want to take her away from a family looking for her. Nobody had come in for her. Charmaine told me she would really love to have Nyla back. She was with her for five years, since she was a puppy. Being over an hour away from CACC, Charmaine asked her dear friend to drive her to pick Nyla up. She watches her friend's Yorkie, Bella, for her often, and her friend was more that happy to drive her. I let CACC know Charmaine needed another day, and they place a redemption hold on Nyla for her to get there. I spoke with Charmaine yesterday, after she brought Nyla home to her. She told me how much she needed her, and that she had a dog her whole life. She said her kids all have their own lives, and she is so happy to have a dog again. Nyla sits by her side, and is happy as can be. We were told it was a dead-end chip.
After researching the owner information from AKC Reunite, I was able to contact the registered owner. He let me know Chico was given to his brother-in-law, Paul, and that they were looking for him. I spoke with Paul, and he asked if Chico was OK, and happy to hear he was safe and well. Paul went to pick Chico up the next day. Welcome home Chico! No more adventures! ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters  Our microchip hunter case of the sweet Pitbull that wound up at Chicago Animal Care and Control three months ago? (story below) Azul went from an hour away from euthanasia six weeks ago, to his family that loves him! HE IS HOME, thanks to so many along the way! Azul had an extremely bad case of Sarcoptic Mange, and was contagious to humans. He was being treated for a month and a half at Countryside Vet, thanks to Heather Otat who took him into the Chicagoland Rescue Intervention & Support Program - CRISP last minute and arranged for his long term boarding and treatment. Thank you Susan Taney for reaching out to CRISP one last time when no rescues were taking him in, and to Kelley Gandurski from CACC for letting everyone know his urgency to get pulled! Azul's family loves him so much, and couldn't wait for him to be home with them. He has been in the family since he was a puppy and it was breaking their hearts that they couldn't help! It broke my heart too! David, Azul's dad came to visit him at the vet often. What a fabulous man, and amazing family - we couldn't be happier with how things turned out for that boy. His daughter Marisol kept me updated on Azul, and told me how grateful and excited they were watching him getting well. She told me he had such great care with medications and daily baths. He is just adorable, and per the Vet, "the staff fell in love with him." Thank you CRISP and Countryside Vet for helping Azul get healthy and feeling good, and thank you to David, Marisol and family for giving him the life he deserves. CACC was unable to track an owner down so sent it to us at #MicrochipHunters. She had no microchip.
Being a holiday weekend in Illinois, Cook County Animal Control was closed so I wasn't able to contact them. I reached out to Jane S., and she was able to help track down the facility that the tag came from! Thank you Jane! I contacted the animal hospital and they gave me the owner information. The phone number they gave me wasn't working, but after some research, I was able to get through to a relative who gave me Hazel's current phone number! Hazel asked me for a picture. She said she wasn't missing a dog. When she saw her photo, she said, "that is Egypt!" She had given Egypt to a neighbor as they wanted a companion dog. She contacted the neighbor, and went to pick Egypt up for them. She will be keeping Egypt as it was best for everyone, and is delighted that she is back with her. Egypt now has a microchip too, that Hazel will register right away! We are so happy this little doll is home. ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters  #MicrochipHunters received this case from Chicago Animal Care and Control late afternoon on Sunday. I called home again and got the owner information from them. Both numbers of this registered owner, Rita, were disconnected, and CACC needed our help.
Microchip Hunter Anita worked hard on this case for a few days, but wasn't having any luck, so I joined in the search. This senior girl was tugging at my heart, and I knew she still had a couple days left on her stray hold. I decided to try to reach the relatives that I had found, both who came up with California phone numbers and addresses. I left a couple voicemails on a landline, texts, and emails to two family members, explaining why I was calling. Shortly after, I received a call from Rita's sister, Deidra. Deidra told me that 5 years ago, she had to take her sister with her to California for medical reasons, and that Rita had given Asia to a next door neighbor, Bryan and his family, that said they would take her in and love her. "Rita loved Asia." I asked Deidra if she had the name or number of the neighbor by any chance, and sure enough, she found it! Of course, the phone numbers Deidra had were not correct any longer, so again, I began my search for this new owner! I made a couple more calls and got an answer from Bryan! He said they had been looking for Asia in the neighborhood for 5 days, and was so relieved with the news that she is ok! Asia was picked up today by Bryan and his daughter, and you can see how happy they both are in the photo below! They will be transferring the microchip information over to them. Welcome home sweet Asia girl! You are loved in California and Illinois! Thank you Deidra for helping me find Asia's family! Bryan and his family are grateful! P.S. Asia looks so happy..." ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters  Shadow is a gorgeous Rottweiler - he is microchipped with Avid, but his owner never registered with Avid. Chicago Animal Care and Control and I were able to get the owner information from the implanter, however the numbers weren't correct.
After some research, I thought I hit a dead end. This name wasn't coming up anywhere. I matched the address to someone with the same first name but different last name and started from there. I was able to get in touch with the mother of the registered owner by texting her to ask if they were missing a dog named Shadow. When she replied yes, I asked what his breed was, and knew it was a match! She called me right away and asked, "can we go get him now?" It was 9 o'clock in the evening. I knew this dog was missed and loved. The family was able to pick Shadow up right after work yesterday with his new harness, and is so grateful he was found safe and sound. I was told by his family, "Shadow has been with us through some hard times. We love him." Shadow's owner will be registering with Avid, just in case this ever happens again. Welcome home Shadow.
