Chevy originally belonged to an over-the-road truck driver. He left Chevy with a friend, who in turn asked a neighbor family to dog-sit. When the trucker came home, he saw how happy Chevy was with her new family, and especially how much Chevy loved the family's kids. He agreed to leave Chevy with the family. But, he said, if they ever changed their minds about keeping her, he wanted Chevy back.
Fast forward two years: The adoptive family needed to relocate from their Texas town and couldn't take Chevy along. They wanted to honor their promise to get Chevy back to her first home. But the neighbor who knew the trucker had moved and the trucker had also moved. The family didn’t know how to find the trucker. Fortunately, Chevy had a microchip. This was an easy one! A Microchip Hunter contacted the phone number registered to the chip and heard back three minutes later. “Yes, Chevy was my dog! Yes, I want her back!” In fact, the trucker had recently moved back, so Chevy doesn't even have to relocate to a new town. Happy endings all around! Lost Dogs of Texas is happy this Texas dog is going home!

When Chicago Animal Care and Controll submitted this case to Microchip Hunters, my heart melted. They didn't get a response from any of the phone numbers on the microchip so sent it to us for help. A 15 year old little Pomeranian? Tansy had to be somebody's girl.
I got a hold of the daughter of Tansy's owner, Nuala, by texting a relative. Nuala called me, and said her mother gave her Tansy years ago, but was currently caring for her and also her other dog, Maxie, while she gets into her new place. She lives over an hour away and is in the process of moving. She asked if Maxie was also at CACC, and sure enough he was! He had no microchip... Nuala was so distraught from this news and was able to come get both dogs and take them back with her. Her name was also listed on the microchip for Tansy, but her phone number had changed. She said the information was from 2007. "Thanks for all your help, I got outta there (cacc) at 5pm...it was a LONG LONG day there. Got em baths tonight! they were smelly & dirty." We are so happy that both Tansy and Maxie were able to go back with their family and that both now have microchips with current information! Welcome home Tansy and Maxie! You are loved! ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Home at last! The found Shiba Inu from #Chicago#IL is home safe & sound. Missing 07/14/2019. Reunited 07/15/2019. Welcome home Elly!
"She is Microchipped and her name is "Elly". She is about 9 years old. All 3 phone numbers, the email and address attached to her chip are all bad" "Thanks to Susan Taney and her awesome team of microchip hunters at Lost Dogs Illinois, her family has been located and Elly is being reunited with her family as I type. And they promise to update her microchip information." Elly's family was found by contacting the owner's father! This is a long story, with a happy ending for sweet Lucy who has been through so much. Never assume stray...
Lucy lives with her human parents, a Chihuahua that was taken in with a broken leg, two cats, and a micro pig, who 'thinks Lucy is her mother.' Lucy was adopted from Animal Welfare League a year and a half ago, and came with scissor cut ears and some skin issues. Her microchip was never registered, though her parents thought it was. We don't know what happened in her past, but we do know she now is one loved girl, that likes to scale her fence and take off running. She does have a skin issue and was due back for her vet appointment when she went missing. A good samaritan found Lucy, and posted her to our Lost Dogs Illinois visitor's post. She couldn't hold her much longer and was asked to register for us to post her on our main page. Later that day, thank goodness for our fan Ev, who endlessly watches out for these dogs and helps everywhere she can. Ev commented and tagged me, letting us know that she had seen somewhere that this dog had a dead end microchip. I sent a PM to the finder, asking her to register on our page again, and to please send the microchip information to Microchip Hunters. She told me the dog was scanned by a police officer, that he checked on the microchip and it was unregistered, and no other information was available. I asked for the microchip number anyway, and was also told that 'Lucy' was taken to Chi Town Pitties; the finder was leaving for a trip so couldn't hold on to her any longer. She also felt this dog was a stray because of her condition. I called HomeAgain, and was told this chip was never registered. I questioned about an implant facility, and when she looked further, she saw that there was a photo of a handwritten transfer of ownership, and she gave me what she could read...a name, a phone number that was a digit off, and, low and behold, Animal Welfare League's name. There was never a transfer of ownership because this microchip was never registered. She came from another facility first. I called Animal Welfare League and received all the owner information I needed to contact Theresa! I let Theresa know where Lucy was, and she was so grateful. She said her boyfriend would pick her up! I called Chi-Town Pitties, Inc. (Fran), and what a wonderful group. Fran told me the microchip wasn't registered too, and that she couldn't get owner information. Fran was delighted that Lucy had a family looking for her and already gave her some medication for her skin issue! She told me she would send things home with Lucy to help them out, and Theresa texted me this morning to let me know how incredibly happy she was for everyone's help, concern and care. Theresa asked how to donate to Chi Town Pitties too! I gave Theresa the microchip number for Lucy - she will register her now! Thank you Caitlin for finding Lucy, taking her in, getting her scanned and sharing with us. Thank you Ev for informing us of her dead end chip, and thank you Fran from Chi Town Pitties for your loving care for Lucy. Welcome home Lucy - what an eclectic family you have - you are one lucky girl! Be sure to check out Lucy's animal 'family photos' - they are adorable! ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Microchip Hunters received this case from Chicago Animal Care and Control on July 4th. CACC was unable to make contact with the owner, Barbara. I received the owner name and information from 24 Petwatch, and confirmed the information was outdated.
I was able to find Barbara's current number after much searching, and thankfully she answered and went to pick up her boy the following day. I was so glad to call her with the good news!!! She said she had been walking the streets, and gone to all her neighbors asking about him. She was so relieved. Welcome home Cameo! You are loved!!! ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunter Chiquis was at Chicago Animal Care and Controlsince the 4th of July. His microchip wasn't registered but I was able to get the owner information from PAWS, though the number was no longer current.
I was able to find a working phone number for family of this little Chihuahua. I spoke with the nephew, who gave his aunt the information that Chiquis was found. I reached out to Mayra, another Lost Dogs Illinois volunteer, who was able to call and give all the information to Chiquis' owner in Spanish so she could pick him up. He needed to go home. Chiquis found 7/4/2019; Reunited 7/10/2019 Welcome home Chiquis! ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Chicago Animal Care and Control sent this unregistered microchip case to microchip hunters on July 1st.
Microchip ID gave me the name of the Kennel that implanted Giselle's microchip in 2009, who in turn gave me the name of the breeder that took Giselle in and also placed her in a home. (Nancy) I contacted Nancy and she knew who this dog was right away. Nancy told me Giselle was placed with someone in Chicago, and was so surprised of this news. She contacted the person that help her place Giselle. Nancy kept in touch with me, and was able to get a hold of the owner. He was looking for Giselle, and the location she was found was not near his home. The owner went to pick Giselle up the next day, July 2nd, and is so happy to have her back. Thanks CACC for asking for help with this case, and to Nancy for keeping good records, and for making contact with the owner! We knew this girl had to have a home waiting for her. Found 6/24/2019; Reunited 7/2/2019. Welcome home Gisselle, ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Yesterday, while on my shift for Lost Dogs Illinois, this came in on our Visitor's Posts: "We were in Lake Geneva Wisconsin yesterday and found a dog on 47. He was in bad shape. He has been out there for a while. His tag says Peluchin, the number to call is 1815XXXXXXX. However it rings once and then nothing, reverse lookup says it’s from Frankfort. Does anyone recognize the name or number? He is a miniature poodle or a pup and he’s white."
I called the number and confirmed it was an invalid phone number. I sent a PM to the finder and started to work on this non-working phone number. At first glance, the number did come up to a family in Frankfort. I called and left voicemails and texts to some of the family members, and when I heard back from one of them saying they never owned a dog, I did a little deeper search, and found three families associated to this number. I sent voicemails, texts and facebook messages to family members of the second name I found. I received a call a little while later from a girl that was so happy to have heard from me! She said her mother gave her a message that someone found their dog! I also received a facebook message back from her, "Please would you let us now quickly because we are very worried of him and it’s an emergency thank you:) and we were looking for him every where and thank you soo much for letting us know" I sent a PM to the finder through Lost Dogs Illinois, and gave her the owner's phone number to call, and Peluchin was reunited last night to his family that is so grateful to everyone for getting Peluchin back home. He is loved and will be getting checked at the vet today just in case. He had gone missing on the 4th of July so was out for three days, and his family was looking everywhere for him. Thank you Maria for taking Peluchin in and sending this message to us at Lost Dogs Illinois. You saved this boy, and this family from so much heartache. A lot goes on behind the scenes at Lost Dogs Illinois. We don't just post lost and found dogs, we work to get them home...
