 Yesterday the #MicrochipHuntersIL group received quite a few research requests, so I decided I would help out. The information that we received was not current, at least the phone number and address were not. So I called the phone number and texted it. A few minutes later, I received a text back saying the owner had moved out a year ago and she had NO forwarding information. SHOOT! Meanwhile I did email the owner using the email address listed, thinking this is probably a dead end too. So I asked Jeanette, LDI volunteer and microchip hunter, what the next step is. We used a website to search the owner. We came up with the same address but different phone numbers. So off to calling and texting the numbers.
All of sudden I got a response to the email from the owner: “I am on the way to reclaim her !!!!!! Thank you soooo much” Woot Woot – I found the owner!!! What a great feeling! AND later the owner emailed me back saying she has updated the chip information! The Microchip Hunters IL did it again!  The owner of Ben could not be reached. The phone was disconnected. #ChicagoAnimalCareandControl sent this case to Microchiphelp.com for help and from there it went to our #MicrochipHuntersIllinois group.
I had the pleasure of working on this happy reunion. After researching the disconnected phone number, I began making calls to possible relatives. When I got an answer from one of the phone numbers that evening, I was told that the owner of "Mr. Ben" had passed away 5 years ago, in 2013, and that I was speaking to the daughter. She was in "shock" and could not believe Ben was at animal control. Last she heard, her family by marriage had taken him in after the passing of her mother. We talked for a few more minutes while she processed the news, and she told me she would get in touch with me the next morning. Sure enough, I received a text from Cynthia first thing the next morning, letting me know that she will be picking Ben up on Friday. She said her daughter was very attached to Mr. Ben and wanted him back to them. Mr. Ben is now back with his family, and so happy. He remembered them after 5 years. Cynthia told me "He has been napping on a chest that is beside my mom's urn and her picture. He's such a sweet little man. He's doing just fine, and we're right where we left off." ***See photo*** #Microchips#Makingfamilieswholeagain Thank you #Microchiphunters!  "Jessie" the cat ended up in Chicago, but was registered to an owner in Evansville, IN. The phone number was disconnected, and #MicrochipHunterand #LostDogsIllinois volunteer Jeanette was able to find a current phone number for her after Chicago Animal Care and Control hit a dead end. The owner was shocked to hear that Jessie was in Chicago at a shelter, as she hadn't owned her for years, but told Jeanette she would get back to her the next day.
Sure enough, the owner had contacted the Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. where Jessie was last, and they in turn contacted Felines & Canines as "Jessie" was rescued by them in Chicago. Felines and Canines was able to contact the current owner, and Jessie, who was renamed to Miss Lady, went home the very same day! Miss Lady's microchip information is now up to date! Thank you to everyone that worked to get Miss Lady back to her family. This was a happy ending for all! Leaving her for just a few minutes in a gated yard, she went #missing. Her family searched everywhere for Lola, and she never turned up. Lola was microchipped!
Again, like Frankie's story, Jeanette, #LostDogsIllinois Volunteer, and #MicrochipHunter Volunteer, researched the dead end chip that @Chicago Animal Care and Control sent to them. She was able to find a current email for the owner, and a working phone number for the brother. Jeanette contacted the brother and when asked if he knew if his sister was missing a dog named Lola, he said, well yes but "that was years ago." Jeanette asked if she would want the dog back after all this time and he said, "Yes, she LOVED that dog!" Jessica, Lola's owner contacted Jeanette and Chicago Animal Care and Control right away. She was so excited to get Lola back home to her, but just needed a little help. Using #MicrochipHunters, a free service, promotes good PR for your stray holding facility. It also frees up time for your employees to provide care for the animals. Because of our caring fans that support LDI's redemption program, Lost Dogs Illinois was able to help pay a portion of the fees for Lola , sending Lola home to her #firsthomeforeverhome. Welcome Home Lola! Missing August 2014 Reunited October 2018 Noel the cat was adopted from a rescue in Lexington, Kentucky. Somehow she became lost in Chicago and ended up at a city animal shelter. When her people were not found, the Kentucky rescue put a plan together to re-rescue her. Today I flew Noel back home to Kentucky. She’s a very friendly cat and wasn’t bothered a bit by the airplane ride. I hope she finds a new home soon! I can’t think of a better excuse to go for an airplane ride. And, the Brewers game was on XM during the ride home. Many thanks to all involved for allowing me to help!
 Princess, a beautiful Black Lab Mix from Chicago, was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Controland her microchip was not registered. CACC sent this case to MicrochipHunters as they needed help finding her family!
With a lot of detective work, her family's information was found, but still no answer at the phone number. Thankfully, Jeanette from Microchiphunters (and also an LDI volunteer) heard back from another number associated with Princess. Elizabeth and her husband were so kind to go to Princess' address to connect them with us! The owner is an elderly woman that was asking her family where Princess was every day. She was devastated she wasn't home. It took several days to coordinate her getting there, but Princess is now home! |
