 I posted a case that came to us at Microchip Help later afternoon yesterday from Chicago Animal Care and Control because of a disconnected phone number. It was an adorable little black and white dog with an AKC Reunite Microchip. I called AKC Reunite to get the owner information, and as I always do, I asked if there was an email address. They found one.
Not even an hour later, I received a call. "Hi, this is Nicole. I received an email that you have my dog. Where did you find him; I've been looking for him since yesterday!" I was confused; I hadn't emailed Nicole. I then realized that AKC did, and that they gave her my contact information! How awesome! I told Nicole where Boscko was, but she had to pick her kids up so asked if she could pick her Boscko up tomorrow. I could tell by her tone when she asked how much they would charge that she may need some help with the fees. She did say she would try to come up with it, but was a little short. Lost Dogs Illinois did help Nicole pay for his reclaim fee. I received a text and precious reunion photo from Nicole: "We got Boscko!!!!! Thank you so much our pack is now back complete!!!!! Without LDI I wouldn't have him.. I thank you so much" I asked Nicole for permission to post this and use her reunion photo, and she said, "You definitely can post it, I would like everyone to know that a microchip does help a lot" Thanks to AKC Reunite for taking that extra step to email Nicole for us. Nicole updated Boscko's microchip so her new phone number is registered, just in case! He means the world her; she has had him almost 8 years.  Another stray cat home!
Benjamin took in a stray, beautiful orange Tabby, and posted him with Lost Cats of Wisconsin. He had him scanned for a microchip, but the 24 Petwatch chip wasn't registered. From there, it was sent to Microchip Hunters! I called 24 Petwatch and learned that the Fox Valley Humane Association implanted his microchip, so I called there for owner information. It turns out this cat was brought to them found as a stray, and turned over to Frosty's Fosters Animal Rescue, Inc. I sent a message to Frosty's Foster, and though they didn't have record of the microchip number, they were able to provide me the owner's names and phone number from his previous name and photo! I contacted the owner, Julia,and since she was out of town, was not aware that her Travieso was missing. Upon returning last night, she confirmed that he was lost, and she contacted the finder today to meet up and get him back home. Julia said she is very happy to have him back, and will be registering the microchip right away. Special thanks to you Benjamin, you really went out of your way to help get this cat home. You are wonderful! Welcome home Travieso! ***Reunion Photo*** ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters  Chicago Animal Care and Control sent the request over for assistance after all of the microchip contact information for the registered owner was out of date. We went on the search and by the 18th phone call to a relative of the registered owner, we had success! The relative was kind enough to get in touch with the owner right away and she in turn contacted me. She indicated she had rehomed Chewy about 4 months prior but absolutely didn’t want anything to happen to him and had rehomed him under the circumstances the new owners would reach out if they could no longer keep him. We’re unsure of what happened in between but are happy he is going back to where he belongs. She asked if they were opened that night, but unfortunately, I had made contact with her after 8 pm so she had to wait until the next day. I received a very happy reunion picture and she was most grateful to have Chewy back!
~Nichole Microchip Hunters  Lost Dogs Illinois/Microchip Hunters was able to help King get home yesterday. Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) sent this case to microchip hunters, and I was able to speak with the vet that administered King's microchip through the Night Ministry (street medicine team) since the petlink chip was unregistered. She gave me the owner information, and when I contacted him, he was relieved to hear that King was safe at CACC. King's owner just paid to have his car repaired, and needed help to pay the reclaim fees. Thanks to all that donate to Lost Dogs Illinois - we use these funds to help those who need it.
