We always recommend that owners confirm with microchip companies that their information is entered correctly and is complete. Here is a great example of human error.
Mia went missing while her daughter was visiting in Chicago - they are from Lake County. She is microchipped but when Chicago Animal Care and Control tried to reach the family from the numbers on file, they were disconnected. There was not an address registered on the microchip either. Microchip Hunter Amy went to work trying to connect with the family. It was the weekend, so the vet that implanted the microchip was closed. It was in Lake County. Amy hadn´t heard back from anyone, and the vet received my message from the weekend and called me first thing Monday morning. When they provided me the phone number, I realized the 8 was entered as a 0, and the family answered the phone. They were looking for Mia and made arrangements right away to pick her up. They needed to get the money together, so Lost Dogs Illinois offered to pay the fee to speed up the reclaim process! Miaś family told me they couldn´t wait to get her home, and the kids were really missing her. Mia went home yesterday, and is now spayed. The family will be updating the contact information too with the chip company. The vet had registered it originally. Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Help Microchip Hunters

Blue´s family was so relieved and happy to hear she was picked up and taken to CACC. There was a break-in where she was staying and they didn´t know where she was. The information on her microchip was outdated, but Chicago Animal Care and Control sent it to microchip hunters, and Amy D. was able to find an email for the family and sent her the information to reclaim Blue! She was so happy and relieved to get the good news! Blue is now spayed and home, and Microchip Hunters will assist with updating the chip! Welcome home Blue! Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Microchip Help This was a blessing for me too.
When Chicago Animal Care and Control got Honey in, she was wearing an ID tag with her name and phone number, but the number was disconnected. She also had a rabies tag from Vetco in Texas, but they would not provide CACC the owner information. Instead, they said they would call and give the owner the message to contact CACC. CACC sent this to Microchip Hunters for help, hoping we could find owner information from the phone number on the ID tag. I did find some information, but decided to call the Vetco in Texas too. They told me that they were unable to reach the owner with the number they had on file, and I asked if the number they had on file was the same number we had from the tag. They confirmed it was. I then gave them the name I found connected to this number, and they were also able to confirm this was correct. I had hope! I wasn't having luck until I tried a phone number to someone else at the address shared. It was her mom! She told me her daughter was going to be so happy to get this news, and that she was looking for Honey. Latika called me from her new phone number, and was crying. I knew this was the kind of crying that happens when a family has been missing their dog for some time. She let me know that she had someone watching Honey last summer when she was pregnant, and that Honey got out. " I have been looking for her for months. Just said to my mom 2 days ago I wish I can find my dog and here today you gave me the biggest blessing I've been waiting for. Thank you sooo much you don't understand how much you've made my day. " Latika made arrangements, and picked Honey up today. We are so thankful Honey still had that ID tag on...even outdated, it got her home. Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Microchip Help Last night, Lost Dogs Illinois volunteer Beth messaged Microchip Hunters for help with a microchip. Beth previously worked at an emergency animal hospital, and they thought of her when they scanned a found red Husky for a microchip but weren't having any luck with an owner! Good thing! The dog was found in Missouri.
I was able to find owner information, and left a voicemail, text, email and facebook message to the owner on file. I thought for sure the family would get one of these messages, but the address on file was pretty far away from where Nova was found. After no reply for over an hour, I messaged the finder. She told me Nova was safe at her home with her 3 dogs, and that she was able to hold him overnight. I tried a number for a family member before it was too late to make calls last night, and she relayed my message to another family member that would have contact with him. This morning I got a call with both on the line...the owner had an emergency and didn't have a working phone so never saw my calls or messages. He was really happy to hear Nova was found safe, and called the finder to pick him up. He was also missing a little Black Lab puppy named Suzy, but she wasn't found yet (she is now home too)! Sometimes people assume an owner just isn't calling back, but you never know if they are not getting messages! We always say, please send to microchip hunters, just in case! Thank you to Maycee for taking care of Nova! Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Microchip Help Microchip Hunters received this case on 3/31/2022. Cash had been at Chicago Animal Control since 3/29/2022, but they were not able to reach the family.
