"Thank you so much; I honestly didn't think I would ever see her again"

This is a long story, with a happy ending for sweet Lucy who has been through so much. Never assume stray...

Lucy lives with her human parents, a Chihuahua that was taken in with a broken leg, two cats, and a micro pig, who 'thinks Lucy is her mother.' Lucy was adopted from Animal Welfare League a year and a half ago, and came with scissor cut ears and some skin issues. Her microchip was never registered, though her parents thought it was. 

We don't know what happened in her past, but we do know she now is one loved girl, that likes to scale her fence and take off running. She does have a skin issue and was due back for her vet appointment when she went missing.

A good samaritan found Lucy, and posted her to our Lost Dogs Illinois visitor's post. She couldn't hold her much longer and was asked to register for us to post her on our main page. Later that day, thank goodness for our fan Ev, who endlessly watches out for these dogs and helps everywhere she can. Ev commented and tagged me, letting us know that she had seen somewhere that this dog had a dead end microchip. 

I sent a PM to the finder, asking her to register on our page again, and to please send the microchip information to Microchip Hunters. She told me the dog was scanned by a police officer, that he checked on the microchip and it was unregistered, and no other information was available. I asked for the microchip number anyway, and was also told that 'Lucy' was taken to Chi Town Pitties; the finder was leaving for a trip so couldn't hold on to her any longer. She also felt this dog was a stray because of her condition. 

I called HomeAgain, and was told this chip was never registered. I questioned about an implant facility, and when she looked further, she saw that there was a photo of a handwritten transfer of ownership, and she gave me what she could read...a name, a phone number that was a digit off, and, low and behold, Animal Welfare League's name. There was never a transfer of ownership because this microchip was never registered. She came from another facility first. I called Animal Welfare League and received all the owner information I needed to contact Theresa!

I let Theresa know where Lucy was, and she was so grateful. She said her boyfriend would pick her up! I called Chi-Town Pitties, Inc. (Fran), and what a wonderful group. Fran told me the microchip wasn't registered too, and that she couldn't get owner information. 

Fran was delighted that Lucy had a family looking for her and already gave her some medication for her skin issue! She told me she would send things home with Lucy to help them out, and Theresa texted me this morning to let me know how incredibly happy she was for everyone's help, concern and care. Theresa asked how to donate to Chi Town Pitties too!

I gave Theresa the microchip number for Lucy - she will register her now!
