Skeeter is a little cutie that somehow ended up at Chicago Animal Care and Control, even though his microchip was registered to an address in Des Moines, Iowa. The phone numbers associated with the chip were disconnected so it was sent to Microchip Hunters.
My search for alternative contact numbers wasn’t turning up much, so I searched the registered name on Facebook and found a profile under a very similar name and from Des Moines, so I sent them a message. Facebook makes it difficult for people to see messages from non-friends -- so my message wasn’t being read. In an attempt to get my message noticed by the person that I suspected was Skeeter’s owner -- I messaged a number of their friends, hoping that one of them would see my message and be able to put us in contact with each other. “Thomas” messaged me back and said “I will tell her to check her message”!!! A short time later, the person I thought was Skeeter’s owner messaged me -- but surprisingly they directed me to yet another Facebook profile -- someone from Houston, Texas!!! A quick scan of this new profile and I was quite certain I’d found Skeeter’s family. I found photos of Skeeter along with other evidence that this was most certainly Skeeter’s registered owner. And they responded to my message -- they now live in Chicago, Skeeter had been missing since the previous weekend and their little boy was very, very sad. English is a second language for this family so we reached out to another volunteer to help explain the process for reclaiming pets from CACC. Within a couple days Skeeter was back home -- the family was complete again -- and there was one very happy little boy!!! So many strangers contributed to getting this little one home -- Thank You All!!! Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Help
