Happy news for Prince - here is his story

Chicago Animal Control sent an email to microchip hunters about a little MinPin Mix that was called in to them as found by a good samaritan named Bill. Bill wanted to hold on to the dog while looking for his family, and had him scanned for a microchip.

"He looked like he'd been lost for a while. Very skinny and not walking great He was in the parking lot of my building this morning shivering. I went back inside and out a couple dog treats down but he got scared and end up going down the alley. I left to go to an appointment and drove by him a couple of blocks away. When I got home, he was curled up on the mat to my back door up on the first floor. He's pretty weak and having trouble standing so it's probably going to take a few days to get him in decent shape because he was so emaciated. Have to feed him small portions of food at a time"

Prince had an Avid microchip that was unregistered, but Chicago Animal Control was listed as the implant facility. Prince was adopted from them 11 years ago, in 2009. CACC called the adopted from their system but never heard back.

I found the adopter's facebook page and a few additional numbers to try. I could see "Prince" on her facebook page from years ago, along with another beautiful little sweetheart. I left a facebook message, voicemail and text with a photo from Bill.

Constance called me back from one of the few numbers I had tried, and said she did have Prince and Princess, and that Princess recently passed away. She had given Prince to a niece that loved him 5 years ago, and learned the niece gave Prince to another family. She had no contact information for this new owner, and when I told her we were looking for the family, she said, "I am his family!"

Constance told me "my daughters are crying, and would like me to come get him if the owner isn't found and Bill doesn't want to keep him."

Bill held on to Prince for nearly 3 weeks, but has other dogs so wasn't going to keep him. He had a vet check and took care of him - nobody contacted him or Chicago Animal Control looking for him, so Constance happily came to pick him up on Friday night.

I received a text from her this morning to let me know he was home, and that he was so happy to see her and remembered everyone! He is running around and playing, just getting reacclimated and going for a vet check today.
