Chica was taken to Chicago Animal Control, and had a microchip that was unregistered. Chicago Animal Control contacted Paws, the implant facility, for Chica's microchip, and got owner information. The microchip was implanted 9 years ago, and the phone number was disconnected. The microchip was sent to microchip help to research.
Microchip Hunters called Paws to see if there was any additional information for the owner, Blanca. Paws didn't find anything more from that microchip, but microchip hunters asked if they had any more information listed for Blanca. They looked up her name, and found a dog named Zeus that had been there in 2019. The phone number for Blanca was different than that on the microchip for Chica. I called that number, and Blanca answered the phone. When I asked if she was missing a dog named Chica, I could tell her heart sank. I told her she was safe and at animal control. Blanca told me that Chica is her sister's dog, that she took to Paws 9 years ago to be spayed and microchipped. She didn't realize the chip was never registered, and that Paws had old information for her. Blanca's sister was staying with them. She told me, "my sister left to go out of the country, and Chica left too." She didn't know how to find her, they looked all over. She told me she never thought of checking with animal control, and didn't know where it was. Not everyone knows to check there! I gave Blanca the email for animal control, and they contacted her this afternoon to get Chica picked up. The family is so so happy she is home, and will be registering the microchip right away. This tiny tiny girl was ready to go home, she had been at CACC for 5 days. Found 11/16/2020 Reunited 11/20/2020 Welcome home Chica!!! Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Help Microchip Hunters
