Duke has a registered microchip, but the phone number doesn't belong to this owner anymore, so when he was brought in to Chicago Animal Care and Control, they sent it to microchip help. They knew he was a cared for and loved dog.
I called so many numbers, many disconnected, many didn't belong to this owner, and a couple didn't speak English, but didn't know this owner's name. Jesus' facebook page didn't have too many friends, but since I had no luck with emails and calls, I started checking the few connections he had. One of the 'friends' had a link to a business, and it had a connection to Jesus. I tried the phone number, and voila, he answered! He said he doesn't speak English, and almost hung up! As soon as I mentioned Duke's name, and a little bit of Spanish that I know, his voice changed and he said, "Yes, address ?" I asked about anyone speaking English and he had a niece talk to me. I explained the process for reclaiming at Chicago Animal Control to his niece, and told her I was going to text the owner the information in Spanish, and to please go over it with him in case! The next morning, I reached out to our volunteer, Mayra. I asked her to please call and talk to this owner to make sure he understood everything, and he told her he had already emailed and was waiting for a call for an appointment. It made my day!
