This adorable Black Shih Tzu had an Avid microchip that was unregistered, but came up as sold to a rescue in Moline, IL. The rescue had no owner name, but an owner address and disconnected phone number. Chicago Animal Care and Control(CACC) sent this to MicrochipHunters.
I found several names connected to the address on file, started making calls, and found the owner Sonia. She lives in Moline, but 3 years ago had given Lilly to her niece Stephanie that lives in Chicago, because she could no longer keep her. Sonia sent all the required information to CACC to let Stephanie pick her up. The rescue, however, told CACC they would not allow Sonia or her niece to pick her up, and instead, will be picking Lilly up because the owner breached her contract by giving to the dog to a new owner. I let both owners know what was going on. They contacted the rescue the where Lilly was adopted the next morning, and spoke to the owner of the rescue. The rescue understood the situation, and thankfully they allowed this transfer of ownership so that Lilly could go back to her family of 3 years. Stephanie told me that Sonia gave Lilly to them, so that when they go to Moline to visit family, she gets to see her. We are so happy this had a happy ending. Lilly's microchip is now also registered to Stephanie at www.foundanimals.org - she and her family are very grateful to have her back. She is one loved little girl... ~Jeanette Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters
