Penny was brought to Winnebago County Animal Services. She was scanned and has an unregistered microchip that was implanted by the Nevada SPCA before she was adopted in 2013 to her new family. The phone numbers weren’t working, so CARE for PETS asked if microchip hunters could try and find her family. They sent a private message.
I started, as always, trying all the numbers, emails and any Facebook pages that could belong to Sarah, the owner on file provided to me from the Las Vegas SPCA. Everything I could find for her came back to Nevada. After nothing worked out, I began researching relatives that could possibly help get a hold of Sarah, to see if she still owns or knows who owns this sweet girl. Seemed as all of the family came up as Nevada and California, so I was getting doubtful. But, I left a bunch of voicemails, emails and texts to people I could come up with. I even heard back from someone saying she didn’t know them, but she started checking Facebook too!!! Still nothing back that day. Yesterday morning, I received a call that I didn’t get to right away, but listened to the voicemail; her brother received my email. Little did I know he is in Japan!!! He contacted Sarah and told her about Penny being found, and gave her my number I provided to him. Sarah explained that they are in Nevada until the end of the month, and that their friends here in Rockford were taking care of Penny until their move here could finally happen. The move got postponed some because of the pandemic! Penny escaped the yard of the friends that were keeping her as an outdoor dog (which she wasn’t used to) and Penny’s family forgot she was microchipped (never registered)! They were devastated and asked are so happy she is found and safe! Sarah asked if Penny could be held a couple weeks for them to get here. I shared this information to Stephanie, from Care for Pets, and gave her Sarah’s number to call her. I asked Stephanie if they can hold her until 5/29, knowing WCAS would not hold her that long. She said, of course!!! We will figure it out! I wish it was always this easy! Thank you Care For Pets for being amazing, and ALWAYS working to get dogs returned to their family! Here is the message from Care for Pets: “We told her she could get a notarized letter saying her friend could reclaim, OR, she could relinquish to us and we would hold Penny until she returns on 5/29, at which time we would transfer ownership back to her. She felt it best for all involved if we could care for Penny until she’s back. So that’s exactly what we’ll be doing. Thank you Francheska for stepping up to foster! Tomorrow this girl with have a warm house and bed to be in until her mom gets back to town! This took a team effort. WCAS. Microchip Hunters with LDI .... and our village. 💕” Penny has been with her family since 2013. She doesn’t need a new home, she has a family that wants her home and loves her so much. Thank you Care for Pets for recognizing that, and to her wonderful foster family for giving her love until they get home. We will share a reunion photo when she is back with her family!!! The photo below is her “daddy” saying goodbye to her when they left her with their friends. Lost Dogs Illinois Microchip Hunters Microchip Help
