This dog was found in Chicago, and the microchip was messaged to microchip hunters this morning for help finding the owner.
The microchip was registered as a CAT that would be 18 1/2 years old now, and all the information was from Memphis, TN. Clearly was not correct! Someone inadvertently registered their cat with Snowball’s microchip number. The microchip information sent to me came directly from a photo of the scanner so I knew the number was correct. I double checked with the vet that the chip showed the cat went to and they had no information from 2003. I called the microchip company to let them know and to get the sold to source for the microchip. It was sold in 2010 (made much more sense than 2003 for this little dog). Thank you PAWS Chicago for keeping great records from 11 years ago. Though the phone number for Snowball's owner was no longer current, I was able to find a working number and got a text back from his family quickly so he could call the finder! Snowball got home quickly, and we will be updating the microchip to correct this! Lost Dogs Illinois will also be sending a new ID tag for his collar. Thank you for reaching out with the microchip Beatris, and thank you to the finder that took Snowball in to keep him safe.
