Toby was on his very last day of his 7 day stray hold Chicago Animal Care and Control. CACC left a voicemail at the numbers provided, and sent a letter to the address on file, and didn't hear back.
Microchip Hunters reached out to see if we can help, this boy was way too cute to not be missed.
I did some research on the owner from the microchip, and was able to see that the address and phone numbers probably weren't current any longer, since they were from 2009, and tried some family members I could find.
I found a sister, and she said, OMG they had a dog named Toby that went missing many years ago. When I sent her the photo, she said "Yes it's Toby. Omg omg Thank u" She had her niece Mayra call me, and they went to pick Toby up from CACC that afternoon, just in the nick of time! A rescue would have scooped him up right away.
Toby went missing when he was 3 years old. Mayra and her family had him since he was a puppy, and brought Toby with them all the way from Mexico when they first came to the U.S. They looked for him for a couple of months, and were devastated. Mayra was shocked to hear this news, and seemed unsure. "I honestly didn't think we would get him back. My whole family is super happy! My mom and dad are very happy to have him home again"
Mayra sent me photos of Toby and the family when he was a puppy, adult, and her with him today. She told me, "I kept the sweater!"
