Two unregistered microchips, and three families later...
Chico was found in #OakLawn #IL on September 10th. The finder posted on some neighborhood pages, and also here on Lost Dogs Illinois. She also sent this to us at microchip help so that our microchip hunters could help her see if there was an owner looking for this sweet boy.
Juliana sent the microchip number, and it was an unregistered Petkey microchip. I spent a week leaving messages and texts, after finding relatives to try, because the information from the implant facility was no longer valid. It was from 2011. I truly gave up, but deep down I knew I must have reached someone that knows something.
I let Juliana know and she told me she was going to keep flyers out and give it some more time.
Yesterday, I received a facebook message. It was a relative of the registered owner. She contacted the owner, and then let me know that this cutie was given to a pet store in the area to rehome. They tried to find information but couldn't. Juliana felt better knowing we heard back, and she and her family had fallen in love with this boy.
Juliana took this found dog to the vet yesterday, after hearing the news, and SURPRISE! There was a second microchip!!!
She texted me right away, and I discovered this second chip was also unregistered! UGH!!!
I called PAWS Chicago this morning, and was able to get owner information for Chico; it was from 2015 so after the first owner. I left a voicemail and text, and also found the father and spoke with him. I heard back from Jennifer late afternoon.
Jennifer told me that Chico got out, as he does often, but that usually a neighbor will find him and bring him home. This time he didn't make it back and they were very worried. They checked with the shelters but hadn't heard anything that he was found. She was very happy to receive my call, and relieved someone was caring for him. I told her that Juliana loves him. I gave the finder Jennifer's number and she called her right away.
I received a text shortly after, from both Jennifer and Juliana. Jennifer told her husband that Chico was found and that the family loves him. They felt it was best for Chico to stay there, and officially become a part of their family.
Juliana and her family are estatic.
Two unregistered microchips, and three families later, Chico is now in his forever home. Jennifer said, "I know he’s in good hands."
Welcome home Chico, 3rd times a charm!
