Pepe was found as a stray, and taken to Chicago Animal Control. His microchip had a name and number, but the "phone number for the owner is no longer in service." Chicago Animal Control sent it to microchip hunters.
I found a couple of other numbers and emails for the owner Julio on file, but nothing was panning out, so I started trying to reach relatives.
Julio's niece answered the phone, and was surprised at my call. She said that her uncle Julio passed away a few years ago, and that Pepe was taken in by her 84 year old grandmother who adores Pepe. She didn't know Pepe was missing, and asked that I call her aunt Elizabeth (Julio's sister) to give her details of how to reclaim Pepe for her grandmother, so I did.
Elizabeth connected with Chicago Animal Control, and arranged to pick Pepe up. "He was so scared when I went to pick him up. He didn't even recognize me at first. He is very thin, but is home. We are so happy he is home, in time for Christmas"
