"Today you gave me the biggest blessing I've been waiting for."

This was a blessing for me too.

When Chicago Animal Care and Control got Honey in, she was wearing an ID tag with her name and phone number, but the number was disconnected. She also had a rabies tag from Vetco in Texas, but they would not provide CACC the owner information. Instead, they said they would call and give the owner the message to contact CACC. CACC sent this to Microchip Hunters for help, hoping we could find owner information from the phone number on the ID tag.

I did find some information, but decided to call the Vetco in Texas too. They told me that they were unable to reach the owner with the number they had on file, and I asked if the number they had on file was the same number we had from the tag. They confirmed it was. I then gave them the name I found connected to this number, and they were also able to confirm this was correct. I had hope!

I wasn't having luck until I tried a phone number to someone else at the address shared. It was her mom! She told me her daughter was going to be so happy to get this news, and that she was looking for Honey.

Latika called me from her new phone number, and was crying. I knew this was the kind of crying that happens when a family has been missing their dog for some time. She let me know that she had someone watching Honey last summer when she was pregnant, and that Honey got out.

" I have been looking for her for months. Just said to my mom 2 days ago I wish I can find my dog and here today you gave me the biggest blessing I've been waiting for. Thank you sooo much you don't understand how much you've made my day. "

Latika made arrangements, and picked Honey up today. We are so thankful Honey still had that ID tag on...even outdated, it got her home.

Just when you think you have reached the family...

Last night, Lost Dogs Illinois volunteer Beth messaged Microchip Hunters for help with a microchip. Beth previously worked at an emergency animal hospital, and they thought of her when they scanned a found red Husky for a microchip but weren't having any luck with an owner! Good thing! The dog was found in Missouri.

I was able to find owner information, and left a voicemail, text, email and facebook message to the owner on file. I thought for sure the family would get one of these messages, but the address on file was pretty far away from where Nova was found.

After no reply for over an hour, I messaged the finder. She told me Nova was safe at her home with her 3 dogs, and that she was able to hold him overnight.

I tried a number for a family member before it was too late to make calls last night, and she relayed my message to another family member that would have contact with him. This morning I got a call with both on the line...the owner had an emergency and didn't have a working phone so never saw my calls or messages. He was really happy to hear Nova was found safe, and called the finder to pick him up. He was also missing a little Black Lab puppy named Suzy, but she wasn't found yet (she is now home too)!

Sometimes people assume an owner just isn't calling back, but you never know if they are not getting messages! We always say, please send to microchip hunters, just in case!

Thank you to Maycee for taking care of Nova!

Microchip Hunters received this case on 3/31/2022. Cash had been at Chicago Animal Control since 3/29/2022, but they were not able to reach the family.

Microchip Hunter Liz was able to find a facebook match to the owner, who said she had been looking for him! Her phone number on the microchip from 2017 had changed, and she will be updating that now!

Cash went home yesterday!

Ryder was found in #Chicago #IL on 3/26/2022. His microchip was registered, and Chicago Animal Care and Control wasn't getting a reply to the number called so they sent it to Microchip Hunters!

Microchip Hunter Amy D. was working hard on the internet to find Dorothy, the owner. Sadly, during her searching she found that Dorothy had passed away a few years ago. Amy went to work hoping to find family that may have taken him in!

It took a little while, but Stanley answered the phone, and when he was asked if he knew about Ryder, he said "Ryder! He has been missing since August 28th!" When his mother passed away, he took Ryder in!

Arrangements were made for a reclaim today at 4:30, thank you Alexandra from Chicago Animal Care and Control for calling Stanley to confirm his appointment for today and to making sure he was set to go home! Stanley didn't have email!

Ryder is set up to be groomed April 12th, and his microchip has been updated to Stanley!

Home at Last! The found Poodle mix from #Chicago #ChicagoLawn is home safe and sound! Her name is Cosita! The finder took her to be scanned for her microchip, and the microchip company left a voicemail and email for the family a couple of times since 3/22. The finder submitted the microchip information to microchip help today, 3/28/2022, after no replies, and microchip hunters sent a text to the owner in English and in Spanish, along with Cosita's photo. They called right away!  The family spoke Spanish. "I was starting to get disheartened I couldn't find her family. I was really worried her family wouldn't be found." Found 3-22-2022; Reunited 3-28-2022. Welcome home, Cosita!

It can take minutes, hours, and in many cases days of research to find a family...

This 16 year old Pekingnese was found in Naperville. The finder took him to be scanned for a microchip to the Naperville Police Department. He had a microchip that was registered with two names and numbers. The first told me that she and her boyfriend David owned Raffi together, and that her boyfriend took him when they broke up. She had no information for David as this was 15 years ago, and they didn't keep in touch or have any mutual friends at this time. She did, however, give me the first name of his mother. The second name and number on the microchip was for David and was disconnected.

I spent a couple hours looking on the internet for this very common name in the town of Milwaukee. I was finally able to find one that had a relative with the same first name that was given to me for the mother. David's new address and phone number was in Florida.

When I couldn't get through, I found another name at the address in Florida and called and texted. She passed along the information to David along with the photo I sent. Thankfully I had sent a photo because the name on the dog on the microchip did not match the name they gave him after adopting him. David said he couldn't believe Raffi was still alive!

After letting me know that he had given Raffi to a co-worker soon after he and his girlfriend broke up 15 years ago, he told me that he only knew her first name was Cecy. He could not remember her last name, but told me he would try and come up with it. We hung up and I patiently waited.

Meanwhile, I checked with the apartment complexes near where Raffi was found. They said they knew of this found dog already but would put a flyer up on the bulletin as well. they hadn't heard from anyone looking for him.

The next evening, I texted David back. He was trying to come up with names of bosses they shared that could help with information for Cecy, but still had no luck. He told me to check back tomorrow.

David was able to find the link-ed in for one of their bosses and said she for sure would know Cecy's last name! After messaging her on linked in, I went back to work researching the internet. It wasn't easy finding the correct Lisa in Wisconsin. She worked for a large company and it was a Friday evening at this point. I called her employment Saturday and spoke to someone that told me I would have to call back Monday.

When I called Monday, they transferred me to Lisa and I left a detailed voicemail. She called me back and said she had no idea who Cecy was. She did tell me there are 3 people at the company with the same first and last name. UGH!!! We talked for a while, and she was so compassionate. I described Lisa from the Link-ed in photo, and she figured out who she was, but told me she wouldn't be in until Tuesday. She promised she would leave a message explaining everything, with my name and number.

I received a call on Tuesday morning. I saw the voicemail, and when I read that name of the caller was Cecy, my heart sank. I read the voicemail, and it explained how they had a dog Raffi that went missing 6 years ago. She was asking for a photo. I texted the photo, and called Cecy, who was crying when she answered the phone. She couldn't believe it - Raffi was her mom's dog that went missing from Chicago.

Cecy is out of town until the 31st, and her mom has since moved to Puerto Rico, but her mom wants Raffi and misses him so much. Cecy got all the paperwork sent over to the Naperville Police department, and her husband was able to go to pick him up on Thursday!

Cecy is not home yet, but is told by her husband and son that he is doing well. Raffi will be seeing a vet when she gets home. If the vet gives the ok for Raffi to fly, he will be going to Puerto Rico to be with mom. If he isn't able to fly, he will stay with Cecy and her other 2 dogs (one who is also 16).

Raffi's family is so happy to see him and to know he is still doing well.

Sometimes these hours and days of searching pay off for microchip hunters. It is the endings like this that make it all worthwhile.

Found 3/9/2022 Reunited 3/24/2022 Welcome home Raffi.

Treasure made a 'believer' out of gayle

3/22/2022

This little girl was found in South Chicago, and the microchip wasn't registered. The finder couldn't keep her and posted about having someone take her. Well, Gayle saw this, and couldn't resist, though she was in Kankakee. She runs a small rescue and wanted to make sure this 'treasure" was cared for.

A fan of LDI, Dawn, reached out and let Gayle know about microchip help. Gayle wasn't sure what microchip hunters were all about, so asked if she could call me. We spoke and Gayle provided the microchip information, after being reassured about the process and privacy.
I found that Treasure's microchip was never registered, but she was microchipped in 2015 through Chicago Animal Care and Control who provided me the owner's information.

I tried the number on file, but it wasn't a working number. I finally got through after a couple of hours, to a number that went through for one of the relatives. It turned out to be the mother of Treasure's owner, and she confirmed that Carrie was looking for Treasure. She gave me her current phone number.

Carrie told me that Treasure was missing over a week, and that she was hopeful that someone would call her because she was microchipped. She got out of their yard, and wasn't wearing her collar. She said her baby kept asking about her and when she showed her the picture I sent, she said "My baby got the biggest smile on her face." I gave her Gayle's number.

Gayle is amazing! She heard how busy this family was, and wanted to give them some extra help. She sent Treasure home with up-to-date vaccinations, a new collar and lead, a tag with her phone number, bathed, and with a nail trim. All from the goodness of her heart. Thank you Gayle's Rescue!

Microchip Hunters registered Treasure's microchip...she is all set

Welcome home Treasure

From Gayle regarding the photo below: "Me saying goodbye to my girl Treasure today at 6 pm! I appreciate your help and tenacity and you have made me a believer in chip hunters. Thank you again."

Taxi was found in #Elroy #WI and wound up at Juneau County Dog Shelter. His microchip was a dead-end as both phone numbers listed to the out of state owner from 2019 were not current.

Microchip Hunter volunteer Liz went to work, and was able to reach the registered owners through a family member. Taxi was loved by them but had to be rehomed almost 6 months ago. They shared the new owner information and she was thrilled to get a call that he was found, and arrangements were made for Taxi to go home.

From the ACO Kevin at Juneau: " Thank you very much for all your help, you all have been a great service!" We thank YOU Kevin so very much for reaching out to microchip help!

The white Husky found in #Chicago #IL is home safe and sound! Special thanks to Caroline and Owen for keeping Bailey safe these past few days, and to submitting the microchip number to microchiphelp.com so we can help connect with the owner after the vet wasn't successful!

I waited to hear back from a text I sent to the number on file when the voicemail was full. After the day went by, I began trying some numbers for names connected to previous addresses for this owner. It worked, and the sister told me Joana was missing her dog! She told me she only speaks Spanish, so called her first to confirm. When she called me back, she said Joana was crying, she was so happy her dog was found. Bailey was missing a few days now. Joana's sister called Owen to set up a pickup this afternoon. Owen was very happy to get this news, he was going to have to take her to animal control tomorrow! He drove Bailey home, and said he is sure she ended up in the right home.

An ID tag was ordered with both Joana and her sister's phone number, and the numbers for the microchip will be added too!

Kiko was found and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control. The microchip was found, and the registration had two numbers, but both were no longer current.

CACC filled out the form for microchip help, and Microchip Hunters went to work!

I was able to find a new address and phone number for Kiko's family, and spoke to the daughter, as the mom only spoke Spanish. She gave her daugher the phone as soon as I mentioned Kiko's name.

The daughter confimed that they all got new phone numbers, and I gave the microchip company their new information.

They emailed CACC, and picked Kiko up.. The mom texted me "Mucho Feliz" They are very happy.  Welcome home Kiko!
